HAGERSTOWN, Md. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers made a first-half goal stand up in a crucial 1-0 victory over Grace Academy Monday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference boys soccer game.
The Blazers (6-4-2, 4-2-2 MDCC) are battling Grace (5-3-1 MDCC) for the second seed in the MDCC playoffs, which begin in two weeks. The teams had fought to a 1-1 tie two weeks ago.
On Monday, Kenneth Hott scored on an assist from Caleb Eckert, and the Blazers’ defense made that one goal stand up.
“We were able to contain their big guys at midfield,” Blazers coach Stan Hott said. “This allowed us to control the ball and move it around the outside and gave us more opportunities.”
Jack Gabler made seven saves in earning the shutout. Grace held an 8-7 edge in corner kicks.
The Blazers host Faith Christian Tuesday in an MDCC game.
