JB softball rallies past Biglerville

The James Buchanan Lady Rocket softball team got off to a slow start Thursday, but finished strong.

James Buchanan spotted Biglerville an early 5-run lead before roaring back for a 16-6 five-inning victory in a non-league game.

Biglerville led 6-1 headed into the bottom of the second inning when JB (8-2) started its rally.

Ashley Grove delivered a 2-out, 2-run single to cut the deficit in half and 4-run third gave the Rockets the lead for good.  In the third, Maria Burkett had an RBI single and Alyssa Blair drilled a 2-run homer.

“That was a big hit from Ashley to start the comeback,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “And Alyssa’s home run got us back even.”

The Lady Rockets then exploded for 7 runs in the fourth. Lindsey Meyers plated 2 of the runs with a single.

Lizzie Pittman pitched 3-plus innings of relief to earn the victory. She gave up 1 hit and struck out 5.

Offensively for the Lady Rockets, Jenna Mongold had 2 hits and 3 RBI while Maddie Bailey, Mongold, Rylnn Welsh, Blair, Meyers and Kyrstin Nichols each scored 2 runs.
