MANCHESTER — For the second straight Saturday, Chambersburg’s boys volleyball team entered a high-caliber event, this time the Northeastern Tournament.

The Trojans reached the playoffs, but lost their second match, putting them in the Silver Bracket. There, Chambersburg won four straight to win the silver championship.

“Winning the Silver Bracket was nice because the boys didn’t give up throughout the long day,” Trojan coach Marta Helfrick said. “At the same time, I think we have a big picture in mind to beat some of the teams in the Gold Bracket.”

Chambersburg split four pool play matches, beating York Suburban and Bishop Guilfoyle, but losing to Freedom and Pennsbury. In the play-in rounds, the Trojans beat Quakertown and lost 2-1 to Warwick.

In the silver matches, Chambersburg defeated Pennridge, Lower Dauphin, Manheim Central and Ambridge.

“We made a few more errors in the early pool than what I would have liked, but we continued to play hard and decrease errors as the day went on,” Helfrick said.

For the day, Steven Swain hit at a .418 clip and led in kills with 34, William Simmers had 29, Josiah Picard 23 and Jaylen Thomas 20. Thomas had 12 block kills and Simmers added 10.

Spencer Rajtik had 72 assists and Treyton Stepler had 42. Wes Newman led in digs with 45 and Swain (32), Stepler (31) and Rajtik (27) were also active on defense.

In serving, Picard and Newman each had four aces, and the points leaders were Picard (42), Colton Wright (40), Newman (38) and Swain (36). The team had 14 aces and 14 serving errors.
