James Buchanan Lady Rocket pitcher Jenna Mongold was in top form Friday.
Mongold pitched a no-hitter and the Rockets scored all they would need in the third inning of their 3-0 non-league victory over Littlestown.
The senior pitcher faced only 2 batters over the minimum and struck out 8. Only 2 Littlestown batters reached base, both in fourth inning, one by error and the other by fielders choice.
“Jenna attacked the strike zone,” JB coach Troy Pittman said. “She threw only 92 pitches (66 strikes).”
JB (2-0) scored all of its runs in the third inning when Maddie Bailey reached on an error, stole second and moved to third on a bunt by Alyssa Blair. Mongold helped her own cause by delivering a 2-run single. Mongold would later steal third base and score on a bunt single by Maria Burkett.
“Our infield defense played well,” Pittman said. “No balls left the infield. Paige Doyle mad some real nice plays at second base.”
The Lady Rockets have 4 games next week: Monday at home vs. Waynesboro, 4:30 p.m.; Tuesday at home vs. Trinity, 4:30 p.m.; Wednesday at Greencastle-Antrim, 4:15 p.m.; Friday at home vs. Central Dauphin, 4:30 p.m.
