Chambersburg rdp for 9/8: Volleyball wins 2 matches; G-A’s Parks win race

Chambersburg’s girls volleyball team traveled to Berks County on Saturday and collected a pair of shutout victories.

The Trojans (4-1) beat Muhlenberg 3-0 (25-17, 26-24 and 25-12) and then took care of Daniel Boone 3-0 (25-14, 25-20 and 25-17).

In the first match, the stat leaders included Taylor Myers (13 service points, 3 aces, 11 digs, 11 assists), Raelyn Johnson (12 points, 3 aces, 2 kills, 12 digs), Ansley Runk (9 points, 2 aces, 22 digs), Marlee Wrights (8 kills, 1 block) and Robyn Stepler (6 points, 2 aces, 17 assists).

Trojan assistant coach Bobby Culler said, “We served very tough and kept them off-balance the whole match.”

Against Daniel Boone, stat leaders were Myers (12 points, 3 aces, 16 digs), Johnson (9 points, 2 aces, 7 kills, 10 digs), Runk (7 points, 4 kills, 5 digs, 12 assists) and Stepler (7 points, 3 aces, 2 kills, 5 digs, 12 assists).

“It was another good team win and another opportunity to get lots of kids some playing time. We’re starting to play pretty well together.”

Penn Track X-C Invitational: At the PTXC 10 race at Kutztown University, the Chambersburg boys team had a good day and Greencastle-Antrim’s Taryn Parks won the girls race.

The Trojan boys took seventh place in the team standings with 283, and were the top team from District 3. Loudoun Valley (Va.) won with a ridiculous team total of 25.

For Chambersburg, the scoring runners were Trent Overcash in 25th (16:39.1), Orion Kimberly in 62nd (17:28.9), Joe Corwell in 65th (17:32.3), Justin Maxwell in 76th (17:44.8) and Brayden Boyd  in 76th (17:45.9). Also competing were Nick Monheim (91st, 17:53.9) and Donovan Hazelton (111th, 18:12.8).

Greencastle’s Weber Long placed 26th in 16:40.3.

Parks beat a quality field by running a time of 18:08.2, which was 23 seconds ahead of the runner-up. Two Blue Devil teammates also had good finishes — Isabella Weaver was 53rd in 20:59.2 and Willow Hurley was 72nd in 21:31.5.

For Chambersburg, Keira Whitehead placed 39th in 20:36.8, Anna DeGrange was 58th in 21:04.0, Amelya Mauriello was 77th in 21:42.9, Olivia Rieck was 89th in 21:58.7 and Allison List was 94th in 22:02.2. Also, Emilea Alleman was 117th in 22:36.1 and Maddie Kinton took 120th in 22:44.2.

The Trojans placed 14th as a team with 343 and G-A was 18th with 411.
