Blazers outlast Shalom in key MDCC match

The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers rolled to a 15-4 victory in the decisive fifth game and earned a 3-2 victory over Shalom Christian Friday in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls volleyball match.

The Blazers (8-0, 5-0 MDCC) took a 2-0 match lead with victories of 25-16 and 25-23. Shalom, however, responded with wins of 25-21 and 25-15 to throw the match into the pivotal fifth game, which the Blazers dominated.

“Tonight’s match against Shalom Christian was an intense match,” CVCS coach Carole Rosenberry said. “It took five games to win, but the girls pulled together for the win.”

Mackenzie Householder filled up the stat sheet for the Blazers with 37 assists, 6 digs and 4 aces. Tahra Kennedy contributed 20 kills, 3 digs and 6 aces, Emilee Beam added 16 kills, 11 digs and 3 aces, Hunter Timmons provided 5 kills and 4 blocks, Taylor Heck had 3 assists, Kaitlin Provard had 4 blocks, Kerri Potteiger had 5 kills and 9 digs, and Ryleigh Timmons had 16 digs.

Shalom won the JV game 2-0.

In a non-league match Thursday, the Blazers handled Highland View Academy in three straight games, 25-7, 25-13 and 25-11.

“Kerri Potteiger played well, serving for 13 points of which 11 were aces,” Rosenberry said. “Niki Schussler led the team with 6 kills followed closely by Kaitlin Provard adding 5 kills to the team total.”

Also for the Blazers, Householder had 22 assists and 6 aces, Kennedy and Hunter Timmons each had 4 kills and 2 aces, Heck had 4 assists, 3 kills and 3 aces, and Olivia Russell had 2 kills.
