GREENCASTLE, PA — There were some nervous moments at the start but they didn’t last long as the Greencastle Antrim Blue Devils volleyball team rolled to a three game sweep of Southern Fulton Friday afternoon. Greencastle picked up their first win of the 2018 season by scores of 25-18, 25-8 and 25-16. The Blue Devils trailed 10-7 in set one before scoring 12 of the next 13 points to take control of the first set and eventually the match.
“I think it was just nerves. We have new people that need to step up so we’re getting them comfortable with stepping up.” Blue Devil Head Volleyball Coach Cory Eagler said. “This is a loud group of girls but when they’re scared they are quiet and don’t play quite as well.”

Senior Rachel Verhoef shows her form that lead to a team high six service aces for the Blue Devils.
Set number two was all Blue Devils as they jumped out to an early 9-2 lead before scoring the last six points to take the second set. Southern Fulton did not give up easily, staying even with Greencastle early in set number three before the Blue Devils went on a 12-3 run midway through the final set to wrap up the victory.
Senior Rachel Verhoef showed why she was a first-team Mid Penn Conference Keystone Division All-Star last season with 7 kills, 6 aces and 4 digs to lead her team. Baylee Schaeffer recorded 11 kills for the Blue Devils while Bailey Wilson recorded 16 assists and a pair of kills. Kylie Cunningham chipped in with 6 service aces.
“We need to build confidence to start the season off”, Eagler said. “In sets two and three they looked pretty comfortable out there but I think we still have a little ways to go with that.”
The Blue Devil girls have the rest of the weekend off. They will return to action on Tuesday to face Mechanicsburg
