Blazers top New Life, 3-2

FREDERICK, MD. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers picked up a hard-earned victory Thursday, defeating New Life Christian 3-2 in a Mason-Dixon Christian Conference girls volleyball match.

The Blazers (4-0, 3-0 MDCC) lost the first game 25-21 but rallied to win the next two 25-12 and 25-21. New Life set up the decisive fifth game by winning 25-21 before the Blazers sealed the victory with a 15-8 win.

“The girls served and passed extremely well tonight,” CCVCS coach Carole Rosenberry said. “We were able to hold on and win in five sets.”

Stat leaders for the Blazers: Mackenzie Householder, 12 digs, 30 assists, 3 aces; Tahra Kennedy, 13 kills, 3 digs, 2 aces; Hunter Timmons, 6 kills, 6 blocks; Taylor Heck, 2 kills, 5 assists; Emilee Beam, 19 kills, 8 digs, 3 aces; Isabel Beard, 4 digs; Kerri Potteiger, 9 digs; Ryleigh Timmons, 10 digs, 2 aces; and Kaitlin Provard, 5 kills, 3 blocks.

On Tuesday the Blazers defeated Faith 3-0 winning games of 25-12, 25-22 and 25-16.

Householder led the way with 4 kills, 6 digs, 10 assists and 9 aces. Kennedy had 3 kills and 3 aces, Hunter Timmons had 2 kills, 2 digs and 2 blocks, Beam had five kills and 2 digs, Beard had 2 digs, 2 assists and 3 aces, Potteiger had 3 kills and 4 digs, and Ryleigh Timmons had 6 digs.

In their MDCC opener, the Blazers beat Broadfording 3-0 (25-20, 25-10, 25-16) as Householder led in assists with 15, Kennedy and Beam in kills with 6 each, Kennedy in aces with 6, Potteiger in digs with 5 and Provard in blocks with 2.
