NEW KINGSTOWN — Chambersburg rebounded from a stinging loss the day before to top Cumberland Valley 8-3 in a Mid Penn Commonwealth softball game.
The Trojans (11-6, 9-2 MPC) led 4-0 before CV scored three runs in the third. But Chambersburg answered right back with three runs in the top of the fourth to retake a healthy lead.
“We gave up those three unearned runs to let them back in it, but we committed to each other and bounced right back,” Trojan coach Chris Skultety said. “Our pitchers threw really well and the at-bats were really good today.”
Brooklyn Miller earned the win, pitching the first 3 innings, allowing 4 hits and no earned runs. Mackenzie Stake finished up, giving up just 2 hits in her 4 innings of work.
At the plate, Taylor Myers was 2-for-3 and Hailey Privett went 2-for-4. Sara Washabaugh belted a 2-run double in the Trojans’ 4-run second inning.
Skultety said, “It was a great bounce back for these girls, and it was tough to do after a big letdown. We had a meeting before the game and talked about investing into this team, and they did that today. I’m very proud of them.”
Chambersburg is now in first place alone in the Commonwealth after Central Dauphin blanked Mifflin County, 5-0. Both of those teams each have 3 division losses and the Trojans play each of them in the next 3 days — at home vs. Mifflin County on Thursday and at CD on Friday.
