The Greencastle-Antrim softball team tried to make a game of it, mounting a seventh inning comeback, but the damage had been done by the Shippensburg Greyhounds in the third inning as the Blue Devils dropped a 9-6 decision.
Shippensburg (7-1, 5-1) took a 1-0 lead into the bottom of the third, but when it was over, they had turned five singles, a walk and a GA (5-6,2-5) error into five runs, sending 10 batters to the plate. They did this damage after the first two batters of the inning flew out.
The winners were able to add a run in the fifth and two in the sixth, which turned out to be big runs. Each inning, Shippensburg was aided by a GA error.
The Blue Devils finally got on the board in the fifth off Emma DeCarli and Haley Dawson singles.
Trailing 9-1, the Devils made the most out of the top half of the seventh. A two out rally was able to plate five runs, using six singles, including five in a row to tighten up the game.
Shippensburg outhit the Blue Devils 13-11 as their top four batters in the lineup each collected two hits. Likewise, GA got nine of their 11 hits from their top five batters, as Kylee Cunningham, Bailee Martin, Baylee Schaeffer and Emma DeCarli each collected two.
The Blue Devils return to action on Thursday with a home game with Boiling Springs.
