Chambersburg 3, Central Dauphin 0: The Trojans won games of 26-24, 25-19 and 25-20 to beat the Rams and gain a measure of revenge for an earlier 3-2 loss to CD.
Josiah Picard (16), who led the team with 11 kills, makes a hit in the photo above for Chambersburg (6-6, 4-5 MPC).
Chambersburg coach Paul Schlabach said, “Jaylen Thomas had a great game, stepping in for his first start of the season with 7 kills, 3 digs and 3 blocks. Dylan Culler also had a great game with 13 digs and an ace. I’m really proud of the way the team played as a whole, showing how well we can play when we all play together.”
Trey Stepler made 13 digs and Picard added 11.
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Carlisle 90.5, Chambersburg 59.5: The Trojans held their own on the track, trailing the Thundering Herd just 47-40, but Carlisle picked up a 43.5 to 19.5 margin on the field and handed Chambersburg a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday.
In the field, the only winners for the Trojans (3-3, 3-3 MPC) were Deja Winkler in the discus (86-6) and Brynn Vandegriff in the javelin (96-10). The Herd won 5 of the 7 events and also had 5 second places.
For Chambersburg on the track, Abby Yourkavitch put in another strong performance, taking first in the 800 (2:17), 1600 (5:14) and 3200 (11:18.2).
Sydnie Gilbert was a double winner, taking the 100 hurdles in 15.6 and the 300 hurdles in 47.5. Shanelle Burrowes also took the 400 in 1:01.9.
BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Carlisle 79, Chambersburg 71: The Herd captured all 3 relays and that went a long way toward taking down the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet Tuesday afternoon.
The Trojans, who fall to 4-2 (4-2 MPC), had a pair of double winners in the field. Brock Harmon captured the shot put (49-7.5) and the discus (133-1), while Nate Reed took the long jump (20-7.5) and the javelin (138.6).
On the track, Chambersburg won 5 events — Trae Barnette in the 110 (15.6) and 300 hurdles (42.3), Tyeshawn Worrell in the 100 (11.1), Keyshawn Jones in the 200 (23.4) and Luke Myers in the 400 (53.5).
The Trojans lost by two tenths of a second in the 4 x 800 relay, got DQ’d in the 4 x 100, and lost by 1.5 seconds in the 4 x 400 race with the meet on the line.
BOYS TENNIS
Carlisle 5, Chambersburg 0; Hershey 4, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans were shut out twice Tuesday, with the last match against Hershey being wiped out because of the rain.
Against the Herd, Will Harriger at No. 1 won 3 games, while Christian Cooper won 4 at No. 2 singles.
Against unbeaten Hershey, the Trojans’ only points scored came at No. 1 doubles, when Vincent Wijaya and Sam Vessah managed to win two games.
