Shippensburg girl’s basketball

The Shippensburg Greyhounds dropped a tough game to defending District 3 Class 5A champion Susquehannock Thursday by a 51-35 score.

Shippensburg (13-6, 10-1 Colonial) can still clinch the division title with a win Friday night against James Buchanan or a Big Spring loss. Otherwise they will clinch a tie for the division title.

Samantha Barmont led the Greyhounds with 10 points. Fellow senior Kara Newell and freshman Tori Rumbaugh each tallied seven points for the ‘Hounds who fell behind early and played catch up all night.

Senior Mariah Martin tallied six points for the Greyhound cause.

The team is in position to win the division and play in the upcoming Mid-Penn tournament on the 13th against Commonwealth champion Harrisburg at a site and time be determined.

They also are in position to qualify for the upcoming District 3 Class 5 A tournament.
