Enos Yeager X-C Invitational

Record set: The annual Enos Yeager Invitational cross country event was held Friday evening at Chambersburg’s course at Falling Spring Elementary. Northern York’s Marlee Starliper blew away the girls field with a time of 13:41, eclipsing the record set by Taryn Parks of Greencastle-Antrim just last year. Parks, the reigning PIAA champion, did not compete Friday and neither did Chambersburg ace Abby Yourkavitch, who was on a recruiting visit to Penn State.

The Trojans did put five runners in the top 11, including Kiera Whitehead (3rd, 15:28), Sydney Parson (5th, 15:28), Ana DeGrange (6th, 15:50), Maddie Hinton (7th, 15:50) and Kaylee Mowery (11th, 15:58). Other local teams’ top finishers included Shippensburg’s Teddi Powell (22nd, 16:27), James Buchanan’s Renee Sollenberger (29th, 17:11) and Rebekah Duvall of G-A (40th, 17:41).

“We had a real strong day and our mix of veterans and talented ninth-graders are going to give us a good chance at some big things this year,” Trojan coach Chris Monheim said.

In the boys race, Carlisle’s Jack Wisner placed first in 12:24. Chambersburg’s top finishers were Trentin Overcash (3rd, 12:58), James Merkle (8th, 13:14), Chris Diaz (16th, 13:23), Donovan Hazelton (18th, 13:25) and Patrick Zook (20th, 13:36).

JB’s Alex Giffin was 14th in 13:19, Dylan Neikirk of G-A was 30th in 13:55, Ship’s Kyle Buchheister was 48th in 14:24 and DeVon Landis of Cumberland Valley Christian was 60th in 14:51.
