Chambersburg wins in PKs: The championship game of the Trojan Cup tournament between the host Trojans and Waynesboro came down to penalty kicks Saturday evening, and Chambersburg prevailed 3-2 in the shootout to earn a 2-1 victory. The Trojans had blanked Gettysburg 3-0 and the Maidens had taken a 3-1 win over James Buchanan in first-round games. JB rallied for a 3-2 win over Gettysburg to place third.
Against Gettysburg, Ashlynn Swanger converted a penalty kick for the Trojans, Layne Kimple had a goal and an assist, Gabby Lecuona had a goal and Brynn Vandergriff contributed an assist.
In the final, Chambersburg went ahead 1-0 when a cross on the ground by Lecuona in front of the goal deflected into the net off a Waynesboro defender. Skyler Lambert tied it for the Maidens on a pass from LeAnn Nauba. In the penalty kick shootout, Lauren Ocker scored the clinching goal for the Trojans, while goalkeeper Faith Johnson — a late substitute — saved the first two PK’s attempted by Waynesboro.
