Chambersburg roundup: Boys lax dominates vs. Colts

BOYS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 14, Cedar Cliff 2: The Trojans got back on the winning track Tuesday evening by handling the Colts in a non-league game Tuesday evening at Trojan Stadium.

“We’ve got to quickly shift our focus — we have big games coming up Thursday, Friday and Monday,” Chambersburg coach Joey Wilmot said. “Brady Fretz impressed today and a lot of young guys got their first varsity experience and showed some good things.”

The scorers for the Trojans (3-7) included Sam Kunkleman (2 goals, 4 assists), Matt Tucker (1, 4), Logan Mulkey (3 goals), Riley Harmon (3 goals), Garrett Iser (1, 2), Fretz (1, 2), Ryan Cosey (1, 1), Quinn Makosy (goal) and Elvys Morales scored his first varsity goal.

Dayre Senft went 9-for-12 on faceoffs, Harmon was 3-for-4 and Jaxson Thomas was 1-for-2. Kristian Freeman made 5 saves and Kellen Sanders made 2.

Chambersburg 119, Central Dauphin East 31: Some new faces picked up a lot of points for the Trojans and helped the team romp over the Panthers at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday afternoon in their final Mid Penn Commonwealth meet of the season.

“We were able to put different kids in different events and a lot of them scored points,” Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said. “Jahnaya Trotter-Wimberley had a nice day in the jumps, and so did Abby Bucher in the throws. Addi Zimmerman won the high jump and scored points elsewhere.”

Trotter-Wimberley captured the long jump (17-0.5) and triple jump (34-4). Bucher was victorious in the javelin (92-10) and discus (103-9), and Zimmerman was first in the high jump (4-7).

Some other new winners included Niamah Collins in the 100 hurdles (17.4), Ellianna Rife in the 800 (2:38.4), Natalie Quinn in the 3200 (12:59.9) and Yanaiah Smith in the shot put (29-6.5). The Trojans had a 60-3 point differential in the field events.

Also taking wins for the Trojans (6-2, 6-2 MPC) were Lexi Boyd (1600, 5:19.2), Katy Weller (400, 1:03.1), Marlee Jackson (300 hurdles, 50.5) and Alaina Morris (pole vault, 9-6), as well as the 4 x 800 relay of Madelyn Koons, Samantha Faust, Quinn and Boyd (11:45).

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 130, Central Dauphin East 19: The Trojans won 17 of 18 events and rolled to a Mid Penn Commonwealth win over the Panthers at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday, ending their dual meet season with a 6-2 record (6-2 MPC).

“Our 4 x 800 (Ari Snyder, Kaden Rife, Liam Kirkpatrick, Owen Shrader) started the meet off with some pop, running 3:03.3,” Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer said. “That’s one of the fastest times in District 3 this year.

“We had the opportunity to try some guys in some different events. The guys had a bunch of personal and season bests.”

Double winners included Peter Mertz (shot put, 52-3.5; and discus, 156-2), J.J. Kelly (high jump, 6-1; and triple jump, 47-6.5) and Jermere Jones (110 hurdles, 15.3; and 300 hurdles, 42.5).

Other individual winners were Antonio Harrison in the 100 (11.1), Aiden Alleman in the 1600 (4:38.3), Daniel Casagrandi in the 400 (53.6), Shrader in the 800 (2:00.8), Boston Vincenti in the 3200 (10:56.8), Mason Mowen in the javelin (134-4), Tamoroin Daniels in the long jump (19-10.5) and Luke Mertz in the pole vault (11-0).

Boyer said, “Among the guys in different events, Micah Gunkleman took third in the long jump, Jermere ran the 300 for the first time this year and Emilio Frye-Reyes ran a key leg in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays, and was second in the 200.”

BOYS TENNIS
Chambersburg 5, Mifflin County 0: The Trojans halted a 10-match losing streak by ending their dual meet season with a win, blanking the Huskies in a non-league contest on Tuesday in Lewisburg.

The No. 2 doubles team of Dhruv Patel and Caden Brenize persevered in their long match, taking tiebreakers in each set to win 7-6, 7-6.

The Trojans (3-10) won at No.1 doubles, with Jack Fiegl and Lance Jacobs taking a 6-1, 6-4 victory.

In singles, No. 2 Nathan Heimbach had to grind for a 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 win, No. 1 Ian Flores Sanchez breezed to a 6-1, 6-1 win, and No. 3 Reid Leidig picked up a 6-2, 6-0 win.
