The Fannett-Metal Tigers (6-3) travelled to Johnstown on Tuesday evening to take on the Windber Ramblers in an ICC cross conference game. The Ramblers entered the game winning six of their last seven games while the Tigers had won four straight.
Tigers starter Landon Arnold and Mount Aloysius recruit Andrew Scalia locked horns in a pitcher’s duel for the majority of the game. With the game tied at 2-2 in the top of the 6th, the Tigers exploded for 8 unanswered runs in rolling to the 11-3 victory. It was the 5th straight win for the Tigers.
The decisive 6th inning outburst all came with two outs. Landon Arnold and Wade Appleby started the 6th with back to back singles. After a pair of strikeouts, Arnold and Appleby moved up a base on a double steal. With runners at second and third, Senior Daxten Detweiler came up with a clutch two out hit that scored both Arnold and Appleby to give the Tigers the lead. After a walk to Logan Hall, Broc Hostler stroked an RBI single scoring Detweiler and knocking Scalia from the game. Leadoff hitter Drew Goshorn kept the scoring going with an RBI single to bring home pinch runner Kristan Koser. Jake Coffman drew a walk to load the bases. Landon Arnold blew the game open with a bases clearing double down the line scoring Coffman from first. Appleby then followed with a RBI single plating Arnold to put the Tigers up 10-2. The Ramblers could only muster one in the final two innings as they fell to the Tigers 11-3.
Tiger’s starting pitcher Landon Arnold kept the Ramblers bats relatively quiet throughout six innings. The right hander allowed 2 runs on 3 hits with 7 K and 6 BB. Logan Hall entered with two outs in the 6th and threw one pitch to get out of the inning. He finished the 7th by picking off a runner to the end of the game. Hall allowed 1 unearned run, had 1 K and 2 BB.
Rambler’s starter Andrew Scalia threw 5 2/3 innings giving up 7 runs (6ER) on 7 hits. He had 6 K and 5 BB. The Tigers scored 4 runs on 5 hits off Ramblers relievers. Lance Rummel had a pair of doubles.
Offensively the Tigers pounded out 12 hits in the game and drew 7 walks. Wade Appleby and Drew Goshorn had 3 hits each. Landon Arnold and Daxten Detweiler each had a pair of hits. Arnold and Detwelier had 3 RBIs. Jake Coffman, Broc Hostler, and Wade Appleby all had RBIs. Logan Hall and Coffman had 3 walks each. Goshorn and Arnold each had a double.
The Tigers return to action on Thursday for Senior night and a 4:15 start against Forbes Road
