Chbg. roundup: Fitz’s goal lifts field hockey team over Greyhounds

Josey Snavely

FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg 1, Shippensburg 0: The Trojans won their third game of their last four, edging the Greyhounds in a Mid Penn Colonial game at Trojan Stadium on Thursday night.

Trojan coach Rachael Sanders said, “I thought this game was a whole team effort — they showed up, played hard and fought for every ball. This was a great game to end our home schedule with. The girls played for one another.”

Chambersburg (6-6-2, 6-2-2 MPC) scored the only goal when Josey Snavely took a shot from the top of the circle and Natalie Fitz got a stick on it and tipped it into the cage.

“Josey Snavely had an impressive offensive showing tonight,” Sanders said, “and Amora Lopez moved the ball nicely from the defensive line up to the offensive line.”

Natalie Miller

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
State College 3, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans could not get traction against the Little Lions on Thursday night on the road, dropping a Mid Penn Commonwealth match.

Chambersburg (9-6, 5-5 MPC), which saw a 5-match win streak halted, lost games of 25-16, 25-22 and 25-11.

“State College is really good and they come after you with multiple players,” Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. “They served tough, which kept us out of system and we just couldn’t get in any kind of offensive rhythm. We need to bounce back for next week.”

Natalie Miller led Chambersburg in digs with 14, followed by Kasey Moser (12), Kylee Perry (8) and Grace Myers (8). Perry came up with 11 assists and Myers had 5.

Serving leaders were Lexi Poe (5), Miller (4) and Moser (3). Moser and Ayla Whiteley each had 6 kills, while Olivia Shearer had 5 kills and one block.
