Chbg. roundup: Field hockey team wins big on Senior Night

Hannah Herbert

FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg 7, Waynesboro 0: The Trojans opened up a 6-0 lead by halftime in a convincing Mid Penn Colonial win over the Maidens at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday’s Senior Night.

“The girls came out ready to fight and play for their seniors, and I couldn’t be prouder of this group,” Chambersburg coach Rachael Sanders said. “I’m especially proud of our senior class and everything they’ve done for our program. I’m really happy we were able to put together a strong performance and get a win for them on their night.”

Reagan Barrett scored a pair of goals 30 seconds apart in the first quarter for the Trojans (5-6-2, 5-2-2 MPC), one on a rebound off the goalie, and one a solo shot from the side. Addy Brubaker tipped in a pass from Hannah Herbert to make it 3-0 after one period.

In the second, Libby Leonard tallied off a pass from Kaitlyn Brady, followed less than a minute later on a shot by Natalie Fitz. Herbert then scored her first varsity goal off a pass from the top of the circle by Mia Dortenzio.

In the second half, defender Amora Lopez popped in a goal on a penalty corner, assisted by another defender, Brooke Mickey.

Grace Myers

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Altoona 0: The Trojans had a fairly easy time of it Tuesday night at CASHS Field House, taking down the Mountain Lions in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match.

Chambersburg (9-5), winners of 5 straight matches, won games of 25-20, 25-14 and 25-17.

Trojan coach Ty Frelin said, “We were pretty scrappy tonight defensively, which allowed us to do some nice things offensively. I thought we served tough and we got our hands on a lot of blocks. This was one we needed to win and we played with a lot of focus.”

In the serving department, Grace Myers tallied 15 points, Kylee Perry had 7 and Natalie Miller 6. Lydia Zentz and Olivia Shearer each had a block, while in kills, Kasey Moser and Shearer led with 9 each and Perry had 6.

Perry (18) and Myers (14) led in assists, while Lexi Poe was the leader in digs with 19, followed by Moser and Myers with 14 each.

Theresa Beach

GIRLS SOCCER
Cedar Cliff 2, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans were missing two key players and could not overcome that in a shutout loss to the Colts in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game at Lowther Field on Tuesday afternoon.

“We gave up two early goals and never really got into the rhythm of the game,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said. “It was difficult with Marley Onomastico out on a suspension from last week’s red card and Malia Cramer out with an injury.

“Theresa Beach played with a lot of intensity in the midfield and had her best game of the year so far.”

Chambersburg (3-10, 1-8 MPC) had beaten the Colts 1-0 earlier in the season.
