GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Shippensburg 0: Except for a tight second game, the Blue Devils controlled the play to pick up a Mid Penn Colonial victory over the Greyhounds in Shippensburg on Thursday evening.
Greencastle (6-5, 5-3 MPC) rolled in sets 1 and 3, 25-15 and 25-17, but Shippensburg (3-10) played a close one in the second, with G-A pulling out a 26-24 win.
For the Blue Devils, Hayden Baer had a good match, scoring kills on 8 of 15 attempts and racking up 14 service points, including 2 aces. Jordyn Wagner put up 10 kills and 10 digs, Emma Nunnelee had 2 aces and 5 points, while Avery Watson posted 7 kills and 7 points.
In addition, Chloe Young blocked 3 balls, Scarlett Norton made 10 digs, Alyssa Petty had 8 digs and the assists were handled by Kira Johnson (22) and Terryn Bard (11).
GIRLS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 2, Boiling Springs 0: The Blue Devils snapped a 5-game winless streak by handing the Bubblers a Mid Penn Colonial defeat at Kaley Field on Thursday night.
Greencastle (4-4-2, 2-3-2 MPC) received a pair of goals by Braelyn Cordell, with assists going to Ava Witmer and Jaylynn Lewis.
G-A coach Jonathan Lewis said, “We played a great team game tonight and did an excellent job of limiting Boiling Springs to just a couple of scoring oppotunities. Braelyn got us on the board with a first-half goal and we carried that momentum through the rest of the game.”
BOYS SOCCER
Greencastle-Antrim 1, Boiling Springs 1: The Blue Devils gave up a goal early in the first half, but battled back to play to a draw against the Bubblers in Boiling Springs on Thursday night in a Mid Penn Colonial clash.
Logan Andou scored the tying goal for Greencastle (7-4-2, 3-4-2 MPC) about 3 minutes after Boiling Springs took the lead in the 5th minute. G-A’s Caleb Noll made a nice move on the right wing and sent a cross to the middle of the box. Blaine Martin flipped the ball up in the air toward the far post and Andou nodded it into the net.
Blue Devil coach Ryan Palmer said, “We had a tremendous effort by our guys tonight. We’re battling some injuries, with two starters out, but the guys found a way to get some points in the standings.”
