Chambersburg 3, Cedar Cliff 0: The Trojans got better as the match went on, topping the Colts with wins of 25-20, 25-16 and 25-15 to capture a Mid Penn Commonwealth decision Tuesday night at CASHS Field House.

“We picked up a good win tonight,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “We served tough and did some nice things offensively.”

Olivia Shearer was active at the net for the Trojans (3-1, 1-1 MPC), knocking down 13 kills. Kacey Moser came up with 10 service points, 7 kills and 23 digs.

Grace Myers led in points with 13 and added 12 digs and 14 assists. Kylee Perry added 7 points, 6 kills and 12 digs. Maddie Rydbom led in blocks with 4, and Lizzy Porter produced 16 digs.

Frelin said, “Cedar Cliff was a bit pesky on defense, but we did well at changing our swings so we could terminate plays. It was a good way to start the week.”

Mechanicsburg 2, Chambersburg 1: An early goal allowed proved to be a real thorn for the Trojans, who dropped a Mid Penn Commonwealth verdict to the Wildcats on Tuesday night in Mechanicsburg.

“We came out slow in the first half again, and they got a goal just 2 minutes in,” Chambersburg coach Marc Furfaro said. “We continued to struggle in the first half, but the second half was a completely different story. We dominated and started to play our game.”

Unfortunately, the Wildcats made it 2-0 with 13 minutes to go on its only chance of the half.

The Trojans (3-3, 0-2 MPC) did not find the goal until 2 minutes remained in the game, when Levi Findley scored a goal off an assist from Jason Lopez.

Mechanicsburg 1, Chambersburg 0: The Trojans remained in a scoring rut, suffering their fourth straight shutout defeat Tuesday night at Trojan Stadium in a Mid Penn Commonwealth tussle with the Wildcats.

Mechanicsburg scored the game’s only goal late in the first half at the end of a solid buidup.

Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said, “We came out with lots of intensity in the second half. Led by a super aggressive Maddie Mills, the team was able to retain far more possession than in the first half and create quite a few chances.

“We showed a deep desire to win and we will take that feeling into the next game.”

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg 20, Central Dauphin East 43: The Panthers’ Shane Everett finished first in a dual meet with the Trojans, but then came 8 consecutive Chambersburg finishers to wrap up a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory on Tuesday afternoon at Colonial Park.

Those 8 straight Trojan (3-2, 3-2 MPC) runners were Logan Bert (19:39), Alexander Kalathas (19:44), Noah Jacobs (19:55), Liam Gillman (20:09), William Price (20:13), Archer Dice (20:14), Hunter Boone (20:18) and Hayden Pereschuk (21:12).

“Logan Bert showed some great racing patience and maturity and ran a well-paced race today, ” said Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer. “Both Bert and Price ran season-best times. I was pleased to  see our guys all earn some varsity points today against a young CD East team.”

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg 15, Central Dauphin East 55: The Panthers started only one runner, who finished 11th, so it went down as a forfeit win for the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth race on Tuesday afternoon at Colonial Park.

The top 10 Chambersburg (4-1, 4-1 MPC) runners included first-place Braelyn Wenger (24:24), plus Miriam Willson (26:37), Abby Berger (27:33), Alyssa Zink (27:38), Zara Ward (28:37), Kaylie Savage (29:09), Carmen Rosenberry (29:16), Lorelei Messinger (31:15) and Dahlia Surcia (31:19).

Trojan coach Chris Monheim said, “I was very impressed with Braelyn Wenger, who looked great today and was our top finisher. We’re looking forward to a huge test on Saturday at Big Spring (Bulldog Invitational).”
