GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Chambersburg 19, Carlisle 36; Chambersburg 27, Mifflin County 30: Natalie Quinn and Lilly Spohn finished 1-2 to lead the Trojans to double-dual meet wins over the Thundering Herd and the Huskies on Tuesday afternoon in a Mid Penn Commonwealth event at Carlisle.

“We were happy to get two wins today,” Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said. “Mifflin County gave us quite a battle, but it really helped having both Natalie and Lilly finish in front of their No. 1 runner.

“We had a couple of varsity girls who were definitely not feeling their best today, but we had a few others who showed up in a big way. Our depth was definitely on display today.”

Quinn crossed the line in 19:48 for the Trojans (3-1, 3-1 MPC), and Spohn was second in 20:35. Kaylie Savage (8th in 21:38) may have had her best race of the season, and Taliya Raber (9th, 21:43) and Bella Rife (11th, 22:12) also figured in the scoring, while Atlea Pereschuk (15th, 22:48) and Darcy Aurand (16th, 22:52) were next in line.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Carlisle 21, Chambersburg 39; Mifflin County 19, Chambersburg 37: The Trojans did not have a peak performance in a Mid Penn Commonwealth double-dual meet at Carlisle on Tuesday afternoon, and it resulted in defeats to the Thundering Herd and Huskies.

“As a team, we just didn’t choose to take on the fight to do what we needed to do to place and finish where I know we can,” Chambersburg coach Jim Boyer said. “It’s a tough task to run well in three races in eight days in summer heat. However, we’ve been prepping for the business of the regular season all summer and could and should have been more competitive today.”

Cole Lehman in 6th place (17:39) and Liam Coy in 7th (17:40) were the top runners for the Trojans (2-2, 2-2 MPC). Tobias Wilson (14th, 18:32), Chase Goshorn (17th, 18:50) and Hunter Boone (19th, 19:36) counted in the scoring and Ben Lin (21st), 19:45) and Noah Jacobs (23rd, 19:53) were the next Chambersburg runners.

Boyer said, “We had one key guy not compete today and another did not finish, and overall we looked flat. We still had some highlights, with Liam Coy running a lifetime best 5K and five other guys had their season-best times.”
