West Side wins Pennsylvania 50/70 Little League Intermediate State Championship

GREENCASTLE- West Side Little League from West Chester won the state championship at Horst Field Saturday morning to advance to the East Regional in Dover, DE, by defeating Haverford 5-2.

West Side went through the tournament undefeated to win their second consecutive state championship. They defeated Indiana 17-2, East Stroudsburg 23-1, and Haverford 11-7 and 5-2.

Haverford jumped out to the lead 1-0 in the top of the first; West Side responded with two runs in the bottom of the first, scoring a run on an error and an RBI single by Hudson VanNote.

Haverford came right back to tie it 2-2 in the second inning on a double by Soren Schoneveld and an RBI groundout by Quinn Brauigan.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the sixth when West Side exploded for three runs to take a 5-2 lead. Chase Buckler had a one-out single followed by Caden Crowley’s triple to make it 3-2. Back-to-back RBI doubles by Mason Isler and Michael Davis made it 5-2.

West Side pitchers Hudson VanNote and Brayden Leech combined to allow just two runs, none earned, six hits, and ten strikeouts

Haverford’s Soren Schonveld pitched the first five innings and reached the maximum number of pitches at the end of the fifth. He allowed West Side just two unearned runs and four hits, three walks, and seven strikeouts.
