The SoFo Indians (18-2) took Sunday’s District V Semifinal game in dramatic fashion, with a 3-2 walk-off victory over the Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers at the Windber Sports Complex.
The game was tied at two in the bottom of the eighth when Austin Mann lead off the inning with a hard single up the middle. Brooks Norris followed with a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance the runner to second base. Kaden Saunders followed with a double to the right center fence, scoring the winning run.
Both teams were strong on the mound. SoFo Indians pitchers struck out 10, while Berlin Brothersvalley Mountaineers sat down nine.
The Indians were the first to get on the board in the first when an error scored one run.
Berlin Brothersvalley took the lead in the top of the third inning after Joshua Brinton singled down the right field line, and Nick Koval grounded out, each scoring one run.
Brooks Norris laid down a sacrifice bunt, which helped SoFo tie the game at two in the bottom of the third.
Colt Mann earned the win for SoFo. The righty gave up zero hits and zero runs over one inning, striking out none and walking one. Brinton took the loss for the Mountaineers. The hurler went one and one-third innings, giving up one run on three hits, striking out none and walking none. Cam Cain began the game for SoFo. The righty gave up three hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out 10 and walking three. Koval stepped on the hill first for Berlin. The hurler allowed two hits and two runs (one earned) over six innings, striking out nine and walking three.
Norris and Saunders were tough to handle back-to-back in the lineup, as each drove in one run for SoFo. Austin Mann led SoFo with two hits in four at bats. SoFo turned one double play in the game.
Jake Phillip, Brinton, and Logan Karwatsky each collected one hit for Berlin. Brinton led Berlin with one run batted in. The infielder went 1-for-2 on the day.
SoFo will play in the District V Championship game on Wednesday vs Northern Bedford at a site TBA.
