BASEBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Northern York 1: The Blue Devils’ offense did just enough, while the pitching of Ryder Linn and Jaxson Bostick held off the Polar Bears in a Mid Penn Colonial victory at home Thursday afternoon.
Linn went 6 innings and gave up 7 hits, no walks and a run, and Bostick came in and struck out the side in the seventh to earn a save for Greencastle (14-2, 10-2 MPC).
“Ryder grinded out six innings for us, and he made some really big pitches,” G-A coach Eric Shaner said. “Bostick was just dominant to get the save.”
Other than Nolan Sullivan’s 3-for-3 effort, only 2 other Blue Devils had hits.
Shaner said, “We seemed a bit in between offensively, and we didn’t seem to go to the plate consistently with a plan like we normally do. That’s something we need to get back to doing. We did make some heads-up plays on the bases that helped us win, and they were crucial.”
In the first inning, Sullivan singled with 2 outs, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Avery Horst’s base hit.
In the third, Bryce Davidson tripled and Cam Rakaczewski walked. Sullivan singled to knock in a run, and moved up on the throw. Rakaczewski and Sullivan teamed up on a double steal, with Rakaczewski scoring on the play.
“It was important that we found a way to win when very few were at their best today,” Shaner said.
SOFTBALL
Greencastle-Antrim at Northern York, suspended: A heavy rain shower halted the game in the top of the third inning and it could not be resumed. It will be finished on May 8 at Dillsburg.
The Polar Bears hold a 2-1 lead, but Greencastle will start with the bases loaded and 1 out.
