GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 82, Cumberland Valley 68: The Trojans’ dominance in the field events led to a MId Penn Commonwealth victory over the Eagles on Tuesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Emily Mitchell

Chambersburg (6-2, 6-2 MPC) outscored CV in the field, 42-21, winning 6 of 7 events. The Eagles led by 7 points on the track.

“Two really nice wins for our teams over Cumberland Valley,” Trojan girls coach Chris Monheim said. “Very pleased to end the (dual) season with a 6-2 record, and I’m excited about our chances for a huge postseason. Our depth was definitely on display in the field.”

Chambersburg had 6 different winners in the field, including Mikaila Collins in the shot put (32-9.5), Fi Richards in the discus (112-3), Kendall Temchak in the javelin (95-10), Addie Zimmerman in the long jump (15-8.25), Olivia Coy in the triple jump (34-2.5) and Sienna Scott in the high jump (4-10).

On the track, Emily Mitchell and Natalie Quinn combined to score 23 of their team’s 40 points. Mitchell won the hurdles events — the 100 in 16.1 and the 300 in 48.7 — while Quinn was first in the 1600 (5:11.7) and 3200 (11:40.7).

“Those two were outstanding today,” Monheim said. “Our 4×100 and 4×400 relays did not win, but they both had their best times of the season. The 4×4 team of Addy Brubaker, Olivia Coy, Bree Paetow and Maggie Holtry challenged one of the best teams in the state and ran a 4:01.4, which is No. 3 on our all-time list.”

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 88, Cumberland Valley 61: The Trojans captured first place in 10 events and added a relay win to outpace the Eagles in a Mid Penn Commonwealth meet Tuesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium.

Spencer Kessler

Chambersburg finished its dual meet season 6-2 (6-2 MPC).

Trojan coach Jim Boyer said, “It was really an all-around terrific team effort, with guys displaying our team depth and grabbing lots of points from each of our event groups. No better way to end the dual-meet season.”

Okenie McLaughlin once again had a big day in the field events, placing first in the long jump (21-1.5), triple jump (44-8) and high jump (5-2).

The Trojans led 48-39 in the track events, getting a big lift by scoring 18 of 24 second-place points. In the field, Chambersburg outscored the Eagles 40-22.

On the track, Julian Clark posted a win in the 1600 with a time of 4:39.6, and led off the winning 4×800 relay team. Boston Vincenti clocked a time of 2:01.9 to win the 800, and was the third leg on the relay. Other members were Isaac Stepan and Cole Lehman and their time was 8:19.3, a season-best effort.

Jon Dawe (300 hurdles, 39.3) and Liam Coy (3200, 10:28.1) were the other winners on the track.

Besides McLaughlin in the field, winners included Noah Kish in the shot put (43-4.5), Spencer Kessler in the javelin (153-2) and Luke Mertz in the pole vault (13-0).

SOFTBALL
Chambersburg 11, Mifflin County 1: The Trojans took a 6-0 lead after 3 innings, then a 5-spot in the bottom of the sixth ended the game against the Huskies in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game Tuesday afternoon at Norlo Park.

Addy Gsell

“Wow, the girls really came out swinging the bats today, and even our outs were quality at-bats,” Chambersburg coach Chris Skultety said. “We coasted after getting up on them early, but refocused and finished.”

Kendall Flory went 4-for-4 for Chambersburg (11-3, 8-2 MPC) with a pair of doubles, scored 2 runs and drove in 2. Kylee Perry had a 3-for-4 day, with a double, 3 runs and 3 RBIs.

In a 16-hit attack, Erissa Varner, Addy Gsell, Marley Onomastico and Sanay Jones each had 2 hits. Gsell’s base hit in the sixth inning was the 100th of her career.

Issie Slimmer pitched 4 innings, giving up 3 hits (including a solo home run by Ava Baker), walked none and fanned 5. Sanay Jones went the final 2 innings and gave up one hit.

Skultety said, “The defense played stellar again, and our hitting is starting to come around and complement our tough pitching and defense.

BASEBALL
Mifflin County 3, Chambersburg 2: All of the runs scored in the fifth inning, and the Trojans missed some chances to add more runs in a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat to the Huskies in Lewistown on Tuesday afternoon.

Konner McMullen

“The big thing is, we need to score more runs,” Chambersburg coach Scott Folmar said. “We had plenty of runners on base all game but couldn’t get them in.”

In the top of the fifth for the Trojans (12-4, 7-3 MPC), Devon Nalewak led off with a double. He moved up on an error and scored on Konner McMullen’s sacrifice fly after a walk to Hayden Lyons. Ryne Mills also walked, then Aaron Vasquez singled to center. Lyons scored, but Mills was ruled out in a rundown on a controversial call for the third out.

Cam Wadel, who escaped a bases-loaded jam in the first, started for Chambersburg and gave up 3 hits and 2 walks in 3 innings. Nalewak allowed 3 hits and 3 walks and took the loss.

In the bottom of the fifth, Nalewak got two outs, but then walked the next two batters. Then two consecutive doubles by the Huskies scored all 3 of their runs.

“Other than that one bad inning, both guys pitched well,” Folmar said.

Ceagan Truett had 2 hits, including a double, for the Trojans, who still hold a one-game lead in the loss column in the Commonwealth standings.

Adele Henry

State College 12, Chambersburg 3: The Little Lions held the Trojans to their lowest goal output of the season Tuesday night at Trojan Stadium and came away with a Mid Penn Commonwealth victory.
