13 area athletes bring home medals from Roddick Invite

SHIPPENSBURG — The 99th annual Jack Roddick Invitational track & field meet at Shippensburg University received an almost perfect day to compete on Saturday.

And 13 area athletes and one relay team took advantage of the conditions to earn medals.

Greencastle-Antrim’s boys team came up with the only runner-up finishes. Noah Parks was second in the 800 race in 1:55.97, finishing about a second behind David Moran of Annville-Cleona.

The Blue Devils’ 4×100 relay also placed second, in a time of 42.34, behind Spring Grove’s 41.96. The G-A team included Jerry Amstutz, Logan Andou, Cort Bradley and Spencer Long.

Chambersburg’s Okenie McLaughlin placed third in the boys triple jump with a leap of 46-7.25.

Taking fourth places were Julian Clark of Chambersburg in the 3200 (9:21.97) and Ayden Foust of Shippensburg in the discus (161-4). Julia Madison of Southern Fulton placed fifth in the girls 800 with a time of 2:18.42 (she also took 13th in the 1600).

Chambersburg’s Jon Dawe placed sixth in he 300 hurdles in a time of 40.06, and Ship’s Rylan Asper was sixth in the 1600 in 4:25.67. Jolene Patton of the Greyhounds tied for seventh in the girls pole vault with a height of 10-6.

A total of five local athletes brought home an eighth-place finish: Chambersburg’s Boston Vincenti (1600, 4:28.43), Fi Richards (girls discus, 117-0) and Dechea Davis (girls 100, 12.46); Greencastle’s Bradley (400, 50.65); and Shippensburg’s Foust (shot put, 49-3).
