Trojans’ Brady Truett fires no-hitter vs. New Oxford

NEW OXFORD — Brady Truett had it going on Saturday morning.

Chambersburg’s junior right-hander put up a string of zeroes in a non-league baseball game against the Colonials in New Oxford, claiming a no-hitter with just a couple of walks and 8 strikeouts in the Trojans’ 3-0 victory.

Truett faced only 23 batters and threw 86 pitches, 58 of which were strikes. It was the first no-hitter for Chambersburg in 7-8 years, and the last one was a combined gem between two pitchers.

The Colonials’ first batter of the game reached on an error by shortstop Aaron Vasquez and reached third base with one out. But Vasquez gunned him down at home for the second out on a fielder’s choice.

“That was a pretty big play when Aaron cut him down,” Trojan coach Scott Folmar said. “From then on, it was pretty stress-free for Brady. He was around the strike zone all day.”

Truett then produced 4 straight 1-2-3 innings. In the sixth, he issued a walk, but got 3 straight outs, and in the seventh, another walk was followed by a flyout and a 6-4-3 double play to end the game.

Chambersburg (6-1) got a leadoff walk by Devon Nalewak in the third inning. He moved up on an error and scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryne Mills.

In the fourth, Ceagan Truett singled and Brycen Murray was hit by a pitch. After two outs, Nalewak grounded a base hit up the middle to score a run and make it 2-0.

Ceagan Truett led off the sixth with a single and Murray reached on an error. Truett was out at third on a fielder’s choice after a bunt. Bryce Deneen then cracked a double down the left field line to bring in Murray with an insurance run.

Mills, who had a triple, Nalewak and Ceagan Truett each had 2 hits for Chambersburg.

In 7 games this season, the Trojans have allowed only 6 runs and have posted 4 shutouts.

The starter for New Oxford (6-2), Gavin Haifley, worked 5 innings and gave up just 1 earned run.

“We did leave a lot of runs on the basepaths today, but got a couple of clutch hits, too,” Folmar said.
