The District 3 basketball tournament begins next week and five local teams have qualified for the event.
Chambersburg earned the No. 7 seed in boys Class 6A and will host a first-round game on Tuesday against No. 10 seed Cumberland Valley (15-7) at 7 p.m. The teams split a pair of games this season.
The winner of that game will face the winner of No. 15 Harrisburg (12-10) and No. 2 Central York (19-2) on Friday in a quarterfinal game at the higher seed’s venue.
In Class 5A, Greencastle-Antrim (18-5) also took the No. 7 seed and will host No. 10 New Oxford (16-6) on Monday. The winner plays the winner of No. 2 Hershey (19-2) and No. 15 Manheim Central (10-12) on Thursday at 7.
Shalom Christian (9-9) qualified for the Class 1A tournament as the No. 10 seed. The Flames will face No. 7 LaAcademia Partnership Charter (10-9) at McCaskey H.S. on Monday at 6. The winner will play at No. 2 Coventry Christian (18-3) on Thursday at 7.
In the girls 5A event, Greencastle (13-9) secured the No. 14 seed and will play Tuesday at 7 at No. 3 Milton Hershey (16-6). The winner will take on the winner of No. 6 Cocalico (15-7) vs. No. 11 Palmyra (14-8) on Friday at 7.
Shalom Christian is seeded No. 2 in girls Class 2A. No. 3 Camp Hill (10-12) will play the Flames on Friday at 7 p.m. at Shalom, and the winner will play in the final on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at a place TBA vs. either No. 1 York Catholic (19-4) or No. 4 Halifax (8-14).
