BOYS BASKETBALL

McConnellsburg 61, Mount Union 33.  The Spartans hosted the Mount Union Trojans on January 14^th in a cross-conference matchup and from the start, well in control, stretched the lead to 38 after the third quarter to cruise to their 12^th straight victory.

The first quarter started, like a majority this season, with the Spartans storming out to get ahead, and by quarter’s end taking a double-digit advantage leading the Trojans by 14, exceeding their 12.8-point season average leading opponents after the first quarter.  To start, Hoyt Glenn hit a trey.  Then Jake Hann bucketed two field goals.  Then Glenn got a mid-court steal and the fast break for dunk that resulted in a Trojan timeout at 9-0.  The Trojans got their first point at 3:45 and by end of the quarter picked up five while the Spartans had amassed 19.  The Spartans scored another 15 over in the second quarter to go into the half 42-13.  The first bucket in the third quarter put the running clock in effect.  By end of the quarter, the Spartans were up 57-19 and essentially retired the starters.  In the fourth, the Spartan bench gained valuable time.  The Trojans capitalized with their biggest scoring quarter and reduced the deficit somewhat.

The Spartans (12-0, 3-0 ICC-S) put two in double scoring figures including Glenn with 20 points, six assists and six steals.  Brayden Ramsey added 11 points, four boards and four assists.  

The Trojan’s (4-9) Hooper, Scott and Rank each led with eight points.
