Chbg. roundup: Trojan boys swimmers fly in CV invite

BOYS SWIMMING
Chambersburg fares well in CV meet: The Trojans dominated the Cumberland Valley Invitational on Monday, taking first place in 9 of 11 events.

Ethan White

All three Chambersburg relay teams took first place and produced times ranked in the top 5 in the state, and the 200 medley relay (Amir Tasker, Ethan White, Cristian Pong and Alex Kaczmark) produced a team record time of 1:34.97.

The other team record came in the 100 breaststroke, a first-place effort in 1:00.09 by White.

“We had a great invitational,” Trojan coach Chad White said. “We suited up and swam some very fast times for right now.”

The other two relays were the 200 freestyle (Kaczmark, Pong, White and Tasker) and the 400 free (KacZmark, Pong, Cullen McGraw and Tasker.

Individual event winners included White (200 IM), Pong (100 butterfly), Kaczmark (100 free), McGraw (500 free) and Tasker (100 backstroke).

GIRLS SWIMMING
Trojans compete in CV event: Chambersburg produced plenty of personal-best times while competing at the Cumberland Valley Invitational on Monday.

Jade Uglow

Trojan coach Abbie Reichelderfer said, “The girls had a fantastic meet — we swam 16 personal bests and that is 95% of the girls who swam today. They need to carry their swims today into the upcoming meets and use it to motivate them for even more improvement.”

Calla Hoffman swam a 58.74 in the 100 backstroke to move her to No. 2 all-time in program history, and her 200 free (2:01.56) put her in 10th. Ava Grove posted a 100 breaststroke time of 1:11.85, 5th-best in program history.

Coach Reichelderfer noted five swimmers who had personal bests: Jade Uglow in the breaststroke (1:24.04), Brooke Reichelderfer in the 500 free (6:14.0), Sarah Foster in the 200 IM (2:46.93), Addie Zimmerman in the 100 free (1:01.64) and Audrey Keller in the 200 IM (2:18.23).

“Jade has improved in each of the last three meets,” coach Reichelderfer said. “Brooke, Sarah and Addie had all been chasing their personal bests for a while.”

GIRLS WRESTLING
Central Dauphin 55, Chambersburg 18: The Rams racked up 7 pins on its way to a Mid Penn Conference victory over the Trojans on Monday afternoon in Linglestown.

Piper Jones

“It was a rough outing,” Chambersburg coach Josh Sherman said. “CD (4-0, and ranked 2nd in the state)) is good — they are a couple of years ahead of us in the program and it shows. We are a good young team and we want our program to get to where theirs is, but there will be bumps along way and today was one of them.”

The Trojans (6-3) scored 3 pins in a 4-bout stretch. Piper Jones (130) secured the first fall, in 4:33 over Aaliyah Johnson, Reagan Evans (142) took 35 seconds for her pin over Eliza Helman, and Hadyn Fritz picked up a 52-second fall over Anne Jura.

Sherman said, “Piper Jones had a standout performance, getting a win over a former state qualifier. She took a big step today.”

At 155, Daryn Glasgow trailed 8-4 after 2 periods, then CD’s Brooklyn Gilbert got a takedown to start the third. Then a 5-point move got Glasgow to just point, but it ended 11-10 in Gilbert’s favor.

GIRLS BASKETBALL
York Catholic 61, Chambersburg 42: A rough first quarter played a big role in the Trojans’ loss to the Irish in a first-round game in the Central York Tournament on Monday afternoon.

York Catholic (6-2) outscored the Trojans (1-6), who will play Central York on Tuesday afternoon, 18-5 in the first quarter.

“We struggled in the first quarter, but we played a solid last three quarters against a program that has a strong history of basketball,” Chambersburg coach Jamiur King said. “We just couldn’t get (the York Catholic lead) under 10 points, although we played well for 24 minutes.”

Maddie Mills scored 11 of Chambersburg’s 14 points in the first half, and ended up with 21 points for the game. Brynn Sekel and Tori Price each contributed 7 points. Jaydyn Brown paced the Irish with 17 points.
