G-A roundup: Field hockey win may earn spot in playoffs

FIELD HOCKEY
Greencastle-Antrim 3, Chambersburg 2: The Blue Devils scored on the final play of the game to beat the Trojans in a non-league game at Kaley Field on Tuesday afternoon, and may have secured a playoff berth in the process.

Greencastle (9-6) was awarded a penalty corner just before regulation ended, and the play is allowed to be finished, even though the buzzer sounded.

Rowan Shubert was able to take a quality shot on cage and the ball was deflected out of the air and around the Chambersburg goalie by Natalie Medina for the game-winner.

G-A coach Keara Allshouse said, “What an incredible game. We controlled a lot of the play and pulled off the win.

“Everyone gave their 100% today, especially midfielder Caroline Barnes, who was in the middle of, it seemed like, every play. I am so incredibly proud of this team of ladies.”

Earlier Medina and Shubert had each found the cage. Shubert assisted on both of Medina’s goals, and Camryn Guthrie assisted Shubert’s goal. Rebecca Jones made 12 saves in the goal and Acadia Long had a defensive save.

Currently, the Blue Devils sit in 15th place in the District 3 Class 2A rankings, and the top 16 qualify. G-A has completed its regular season, but games through Thursday count toward the rankings. The first round of playoffs is Tuesday, Oct. 21.
