CHAMBERSBURG at ALTOONA
Game data: Trojans at Mountain Lions, Friday, 7 p.m. at Mansion Park … Mid Penn Commonwealth game … Live stream available on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Chambersburg (3-4, 2-4 MPC) was able to scrape past Carlisle, 6-0 … Altoona (2-5, 2-4 MPC) dropped a 45-7 verdict to Harrisburg.
The opponent: The biggest problem yearly when facing the Mountain Lions is having to defend their triple option offense, run by nobody else in the division … The fullback, Julian Hazlewood, has 54 carries for 229 yards and 2 scores, QB Parker White has 40 carries for 201 and 3 TDs and HB Michael Clemons has 168 yards and 2 TDs on 45 carries … White has also completed 53 of 112 passes for 624 yards, 1 TD and 7 interceptions … The top receivers are Cody Chathams (17-206, 1 TD) and Michael Chisolm (10-131).
Coach’s viewpoint: Trojan coach Gary Carter said, “They are always tough, and they’re like a lot of teams (in the division) — you win some and you lose some. Their triple option makes it hard for the defense because they really have to be disciplined with their responsibilities. Last year we did better against it, but then we gave up two play-action touchdowns. Their fullback is tough, they have an all-conference linebacker (Logan Wukovich) and another good one linebacker (Luke Geishauser). They are aggressive and play downhill.”
Unsung: Carter said that the defensive line, led by end Ray Williams, played well last week … “It might be a surprise (because of the score), but the offensive line protected very well — the grades were not nearly as bad as you’d think. We just missed on four plays where we were open over the top.” … Carter said that Frank Barrientos (C) and guards Rylan Pottle and Omar Hanchey had good games.”
Statistics: Passing — Cam Green 70-for-127 (55%), 764 yards, 4 TDs, 7 int. … Rushing — Malachi Tasker 86-210 … Receiving — Davonte Scott 34-436, 3 TDs; Cobe Penick 30-298, 3 TDs; Isaiah Tasker 15-154, 2 TDs; Cooper Stockslager 9-104; M.Tasker 10-88, 1 TD
GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM at JUNIATA
Game data: Blue Devils at Indians, Friday, 7 p,m., in Mifflintown … Non-league game … Live stream available on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Greencastle (2-5) defeated Milton Hershey decisively, 41-21 … Juniata (5-2) whipped up on Newport, 49-14.
The opponent: Juniata is a District 6 school playing in the Mid Penn Capital Division … Its 2 losses were 18-14 to Steel-High and 35-0 by unbeaten Line Mountain … The player to watch is RB/WR Jasper Shepps, who has rushed for 200 yards and 4 TDs on just 20 carries and caught 21 passes for 478 yards and 6 scores … QB Jason Condo has completed 29 of 62 passes for 572 yards, 8 TDs and 4 int. … Other potential rushers are Camden Bargo (50-219, 1 TD) and Ty Rowles (47-186, 3 TDs).
Coach’s viewpoint: G-A coach Jason Thurston said, “We cannot take this team for granted, just because they play some smaller schools. They are scrappy and get after it. Shepps is a nice athlete — he’s their guy. Sometimes he lines up at QB and takes the snaps and runs. Our defense will need to know where he lines up. We need to play like we did last week. We tackled better and we seemed to find our identity with the running game.”
Unsung: “O Ben ur offensive line did very well last week,” Thurston said. “It’s taken them a while to learn my terminology, but we’re starting to click. The communication and calls at the line are the key to our success.” … The OL includes center Gavin Knable, guards Ben Belleau and Mason Mellott and tackles Landon Reed and Elijah Ambrose, plus tight end Wyatt Hull.
Statistics: Passing — Lane Barry 38-for-92 (41%), 458 yards, 2 TDs, 5 int. … Rushing — Blake Reuter 90-647 (7.2 avg.), 7 TDs; Lars Galinanes 77-352, 4 TDs … Receiving — Wyatt Hull 11-184, 1 TD; Noah Shifflett 9-165, 1 TD; Galinanes 8-80.
