Chbg. roundup: Trojan soccer teams collect wins over Herd

GIRLS SOCCER
Chambersburg 4, Carlisle 1: Bree Paetow continued her recent scoring binge with 3 goals and the Trojans took care of the Thundering Herd in the rain and on the road Tuesday night in a Mid Penn Commonwealth game.

Bree Paetow

Paetow has scored 8 goals in her last 3 games, and 10 goals in the last 6 games.

“For the most part, we controlled the tempo and were able to neutralize their attack with a solid display of team defending,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said.

Paetow took a pass from Kadence Decker 25 minutes in and curled in a left-footed shot for the first goal for Chambersburg (7-5-1, 5-4-1 MPC). After Carlisle tied the game, Paetow threaded a pass through the defense and Maddie Mills stuck it in the net.

The third goal came 25 minutes into the second half when Lilah Upham slotted a ball through to Paetow, who dribbled past several Herd players before scoring. The last goal came when Decker hit a shot that was blocked by the Carlisle keeper and Paetow knocked in the rebound.

Chambersburg 2, Carlisle 0: After a week off, the Trojans got back on track, shutting out the Thundering Herd in a Mid Penn Commonwealth clash at rainy Trojan Stadium on Tuesday night.

Chambersburg coach Corey Grove said, “I’ve never seen our field flooded before, until tonight. I told the kids they had to be mentally tough, knowing the conditions we had to play in. We put in a great performance and controlled the play for the majority of the game.”

Jason Lopez, a freshman, scored his first varsity goal to give the Trojans (8-2-4, 6-2-2 MPC) a lead. His shot was an in-swinger that hit the inside of the post and went into the net.

Noah Mulewich scored his 6th goal of the season off a fine pass from Anton Winter.

Chambersburg led in shots (12-2) and corners (4-1) and goalkeeper Tyson Shanholtz made just 1 save.

Grove said, “It was good to get another shutout (8th of the season) after our recent run of games. I know our back line is one of the best in the district and they proved that again tonight.”
