Chambersburg 3, Altoona 0: The Trojans halted a 3-match losing skid by dominating the Mountain Lions in a Mid Penn Commonwealth clash at CASHS Field House on Thursday evening.

Chambersburg (7-7, 3-6 MPC) collected wins of 25-14, 25-15 and 25-17.

At the net, Nizaya Hawkins had 4 blocks and 4 kills, and added 11 service points, Kasey Moser put down 11 kills and Olivia Shearer had 5, and Riley Cramer had 3 blocks. Ava Zeigler assisted 19 times, had 9 points and 8 digs.

Lexi Poe led in points with 15 and added 9 digs, and Kaylie Stull led in digs (13).

“We came out really focused tonight,” Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. “We served tough and kept them out of system throughout the match. We were very active defensively, which resulted in some good offensive opportunities. It was nice to get everybody in, especially the seniors.”

Trojans compete in Mid Penns: Chambersburg was well represented at the Mid Penn Conference championships at CD East on Thursday.

The Trojans will have one singles player and two doubles team in Friday’s semifinal round.

At No. 2 singles, Charlie Kalathas won her first match over a player from CD East (6-1, 6-1), then followed with a 6-3, 6-1 victory over a Cedar Cliff foe. Kalathas will take on a Central Dauphin opponent Friday.

The No. 3 doubles team of Nina Kuchar and Issie Slimmer picked up wins over Hershey (6-2, 6-4) and Palmyra (1-6, 6-2, 6-3). to reach the semifinals.

Also, the District 3 doubles team of Leah Wadel and Kalathas received the No. 3 seed and will start their competition in the semifinals Friday.

Wadel, at No. 1 singles, beat a Carlisle opponent (6-2, 6-2), then dropped a match to Cumberland Valley (6-1, 6-0). She is still alive in the back draw Friday for a chance at qualifying for districts.

Olivia Keller won her first match at No. 3 singles over CD East 6-1, 6-0, but was knocked out by CD, 6-2, 6-4.

At No. 1 doubles, Gwen Sefcheck and Gretta Hill managed a lengthy win over Northern in the first round, 3-6, 6-2, 6-2, but then fell to CD, 6-1, 6-2.
