GIRLS SOCCER: McConnellsburg 1, Windber 2: The McConnellsburg Lady Spartans (7-2, 5-1 ICC-S) traveled to face the Windber Lady Ramblers in an ICC South contest on September 20th. The game was played under the lights on Windber’s turf field, where both teams demonstrated strong defensive efforts and competitive play throughout the match.
The first half was evenly matched, with both teams making several attempts at goal but ultimately keeping the score level at 0-0 due to solid defensive play on both sides.
Two minutes in the second half, the Lady Spartans broke the deadlock. Marin DeShong scored the team’s only goal, capitalizing on a follow-up opportunity after a corner kick delivered by Serinity Rengifo.
With eight minutes remaining in the game, Windber tied the match, scoring on a short breakaway. The Ramblers then took advantage of another opportunity in the sixth minute, breaking through the Spartan fullback defense to score their second and final goal of the night.
