FIELD HOCKEY
Chambersburg 8, Waynesboro 0: The Trojans broke out on offense and defense and cruised past the Maidens on the road Thursday afternoon in a non-league game for their first victory.
Jaxin Frazer led the way by scoring 2 goals and adding an assist.
Also finding the cage with shots were Kendall Flory, Natalie Fitz, Josie Snavely, Addy Brubaker, Reagan Barrett and Julia Elhajj. Barrett, Savanah White and Mia Dortenzo were credited with assists.
Goalie Abigail Shoop made one save to preserve the shutout for Chambersburg (1-6).
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Chambersburg 3, Cedar Cliff 0: The Trojans dominated the Colts, winning by scores of 25-16, 25-9 and 25-13, to take a Mid Penn Commonwealth win on the road Thursday night.
“We came out really focused tonight and we were able to put some good runs together,” Chambersburg coach Ty Frelin said. “We executed our offense very well and kept Cedar Cliff on their heels. t was a good opportunity to get everyone in the match.”
Kasey Moser led the team with 10 service points (1 ace), 5 kills and 13 digs. Ava Zeigler made 17 assists and had 9 points (2 aces).
Also for the Trojans (4-2, 2-2 MPC), Nizaya Hawkins had 6 points (3 aces) and 3 blocks; Lexi Poe had 7 points (1 ace) and 10 digs; Kaitlin Thomas and Riley Cramer each had 2 blocks; Emma Yoder and Olivia Shearer each had 4 kills and Kaylie Stull contributed 12 digs.
GIRLS SOCCER
Chambersburg 4, Carlisle 2: The Trojans won for the third time in their last four games, handing the Thundering Herd a Mid Penn Commonwealth defeat Thursday night at Trojan Stadium.
“We did some aggressive pressing and some top-quality finishing,” Chambersburg coach Paul Unruh said. “Our short, two-touch passing game, along with relentlessly winning the ball up high were the key to success. Credit to the girls — they really wanted this one.”
The Trojans (3-3, 2-2 MPC) opened the scoring when Kadence Decker brought down a flick-on header from Bree Paetow and slotted it into the goal. Shortly after that, Katy Weller took a free kick from 25 yards out and found the back of the net with a strong shot.
Carlisle made it 2-1 before halftime, but Chambersburg stretched its lead early in the second half. Decker sent a shot in off the bottom of the crossbar from 20 yards out, and Malia Cramer hit the side of the net with a slicing left-footed shot.
BOYS SOCCER
Chambersburg 2, Carlisle 1: A shot by the Trojans’ Noah Mulewich that crossed the goal line just before the final horn sounded lifted Chambersburg to a Mid Penn Commonwealth win at Carlisle on Thursday night.
In the final seconds, with the score tied 1-1 vs. the Thundering Herd, Anton Winter sent in a cross to the middle of the box and Mulewich volleyed it toward the goal, with the ball crossing the line just before the final horn.
“We will probably never see that again,” Trojan coach Corey Grove said. “I give Carlisle a lot of credit — they played hard and competed all night. It was another tough Mid Penn Commonwealth game and I’m glad we came out with a win.”
Chambersburg is 4-0-3 (3-0-1 MPC) is now the last unbeaten team in District 3 Class 4A.
The Trojans’ first goal was scored by Brandon Arana after a through ball from Nate Folk opened him up.
GIRLS TENNIS
Palmyra 3, Chambersburg 2: The Cougars made up a 2-1 deficit in singles by winning both doubles matches and captured a non-league victory over the Trojans at Norlo Park on Thursday afternoon.
No. 1 Leah Wadel earned a 6-5, 6-3 win for Chambersburg (3-5) and teammate Olivia Keller at No. 3 picked up a 6-4, 6-2 victory.
In the other singles match, the Trojans’ No. 2, Charlie Kalathas, was defeated 6-2, 6-3.
The No. 2 doubles team of Issie Slimmer and Nina Kuchar lost 6-3 in the opening set, then evened it with a 6-3 win. But in the third set, Palmyra (7-1) won 6-3. At No. 1, Gwen Sefcheck and Gretta Hill fell 6-3, 6-4.
