HARRISBURG AT CHAMBERSBURG
Game data: Cougars at Trojans, Friday at Trojan Stadium, 7 p.m. … Mid Penn Commonwealth game … Induction ceremony of the Chambersburg Athletics Hall of Fame at halftime … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: Harrisburg (3-0, 2-0 MPC), which is ranked No. 2 in the state in Class 6A, came out with a win in 2 OTs at State College, 48-45 … Chambersburg (2-1, 1-1 MPC) was defeated by Bishop McDevitt, 41-7.
The opponent: The Cougars are loaded, as usual, with 3 Division I signees — OL/DL Kevin Brown (6-5, 290) and RB/lB Messiah Mickens both to Penn State and WR Elias Coke to Rutgers … QB Mikal Shank Jr. has thrown for 518 yards (37-for-57, 65%) and 6 TDs with 1 pick … Coke has 16 catches for 235 yards and 2 scores, while WR Jaiyon Lewis has 8 for 138 and 2 TDs … Mickens has not played since the first quarter of the second game, but Princeton Dent has filled in at RB with 308 yards on 55 carries and 3 scores.
Coach’s viewpoint: Trojan coach Gary Carter said, “Harrisburg has athletes all over the field, and and their D-1 kids play like D-1 kids — they are legit. They are coming off wins over McDevitt and State College, but I think their coach (Cal Everett) will have them ready to play this week. We just have to stay in the game and give ourselves a chance.” … The Trojans have lost 2 key senior players for the season to injury — QB Ceagan Truett and RB Nick Pompeii … Carter said, “We have quarterbacks Cam Green (so., 6-3, 185) and Mason Costolo (fr., 5-11, 165), who have played with us all summer. We have to coach them up and get their confidence up — just do your job and do the small things, and look at it as an opportunity. We have to hit the reset button because we have some winnable games on our schedule.”
Unsung: Carter said, “When we looked at the film, our lines did not get dominated by McDevitt. There were a lot of stalemates. The defensive line of Enoch Keath, Eli Vosburg and Ray Williams did not lose the line of scrimmage.”
Statistics: WR Davonte Scott had a good game last week (6 catches, 103 yards) and his season totals are 19 grabs for 267, 2 TDs … Truett’s totals will end at 40-for-65 (62%) for 437, 7 TDs, 1 int. … Other receivers include Cobe Penick (9-111, 2 TDs) and Isaiah Tasker (8-105, 2 TDs) … RB Malachi Tasker has 40 carries for 84 yards.
GREENCASTLE-ANTRIM AT EAST PENNSBORO
Game data: Blue Devils at Panthers, in Enola, 7 p.m. … Mid Penn Colonial game … Live stream on MidPennBroadcasting.com.
Last week: East Pennsboro (2-1, 2-0 MPC) took care of Milton Hershey in a 42-28 win … Greencastle (1-2, 1-1 MPC) captured a win over Middletown, 19-16.
The opponent: Panthers’ WR Kolton Keys was ridiculously dangerous last week — on 5 touches, he made 3 runs for 193 yards and 2 TDs, and caught 2 passes for 99 yards and one score … TB Elliot Bruhn has 40 carries for 205 yards (5.1 average) and 2 TDs, while RB E.J. Rivera has 13 for 155 (11.9 avg.) … The Panthers do not pass often — QB Turner Barlup has connected on 8 of 22 throws for 137 yards and 1 TD.
Coach’s viewpoint: G-A coach Jason Thurston said, “They don’t pass a lot, but they will run from an I set, with a single back, with motion and with a shotgun, and distribute the ball around, and their kids run hard. They just keep doing what they do and hope they can wear you down and go the distance. We will have to fill our gaps and do team tackling. Our defense played well last week, but we have not caused a turnover yet and that’s something we could really use.”
Unsung: DT Loki Huffman … Thurston said, “We had a lot of praise for our defense. Middletown had a first down at our 1 and we held them to a field goal. Huffman was close to two sacks last week and hurried their quarterback. He did his job very well and opened things up for our linebackers to make the tackle.”
Statistics: Greencastle leaders: Rushing — Blake Reuter 31-232 (7.5 avg.), 3 TDs; Lars Galinanes 36-158 … Passing — Lane Barry 14-of-34 for 162 yards, 2 TDs, 1 int. … Receiving — Noah Shifflett 3-82, 1 TD; Wyatt Hull 5-79.
