GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
Mechanicsburg 3, Chambersburg 1: The Wildcats rang up wins in the third and fourth sets to vanquish the Trojans in a Mid Penn Commonwealth match Thursday night at the CASHS Field House.
Mechanicsburg won 25-14 in the first, then Chambersburg (2-2, 0-2 MPC) rallied to win game two, 25-20. But the Wildcats won 25-20 and 25-22 to wrap up the win.
“Tonight was a struggle for us, both offensively and defensively,” Trojan coach Ty Frelin said. “Mechanicsburg played really well and they have a few girls who can hit the ball hard. They also blocked well.”
Ava Zeigler led Chambersburg in service points with 11 (3 aces), 33 assists and 19 digs. Nizaya Hawkins had 7 points (3 aces) and had 2 blocks.
Lexi Poe had 7 points, Kasey Moser led with 18 kills and Olivia Shearer had 7, and Kaylie Stull made 12 digs.
Frelin said, “We simply couldn’t get into any kind of rhythm tonight. But that’s hard to do when you make a lot of unforced errors. On a positive note, Kasey and Ava both played well tonight.”
