Chbg. roundup: Golfers lead off 2025-26 sports season

BOYS GOLF
Trojans place 5th in opener: Chambersburg hosted the opening match for the Mid Penn Commonwealth on Wednesday at Penn National Founders Course and the Trojans placed fifth in the team standings.

State College won with a team total of 286, while Chambersburg had 353 strokes. The Little Lions’ Charlie Ladrida shot a 4-under 68 to win the tournament.

The Trojans’ top placer was Kasen Shaffer, who shot nines of 40-40 for an 80, good for a tie for 17th place. Mason Lehman had 88 for 30th place and teammate Kole Peiffer had 89 for a tie for 31st.

Also playing were Colby Miller (94), Max Piper (96), Bryce Deneen (99) and Casen Johnson (100).

Chambersburg coach Mark Yost said, “Shaffer had a pretty good round, but overall we didn’t do as well as I’d hoped. Our next two guys had scored a little better in qualifying, but they’re sophomores in their first varsity match.”

GIRLS GOLF
Rensch places 4th: Chambersburg sophomore Abby Rensch took fourth place Wednesday in a rain-shortened Mid Penn Conference match at Penn National Founders Course.

Rensch shot a 44, including scoring pars on 3 of her last 4 holes. The girls’ event was halted early in the back nine when a storm came through.

Trojan coach Mark Yost said, “Abby was right there in contention, so she should be there the rest of the year.”

Waynesboro’s Abby Byers earned medalist honors with a score of 40, which included a birdie on No. 5.
