Jett Burger collected three hits in three at bats and Austin Mann drove in 2 runs with 2 hits and a sacrifice fly as Southern Fulton Indians defeated Northern Bedford County 7-2 on Friday in Warfordsburg. The Indians improve to 20-1 on the season and punched their ticket into their 5th consecutive District V Championship game.
Burger doubled in the sixth inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the fourth inning. Mann hit a sacrifice fly to deep right in the 2nd to close the gap to 2-1, had a 2 out RBI single in the 4th to tie the game at 2, then singled again in the 6th.
Northern Bedford County opened the scoring in the first after a throwing error allowed the leadoff hitter to score from 2nd base.
Northern Bedford County added one run in the second thanks to an Indian error, making the score 2-0.
Southern Fulton flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the sixth, scoring five runs on six hits to take the lead, 7-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a bases loaded single by Kaiden Schriever that drove in two.
Owen Oakman earned the win for the Indians. The pitcher gave up four hits and zero runs over three innings, striking out two and walking none. Reese Mussleman took the loss for Northern Bedford County. The starter went six innings, giving up seven runs (five earned) on 10 hits, striking out two and walking two. Joel Fitz stepped on the bump first for Southern Fulton Indians. The starter gave up three hits and two runs (zero earned) over four innings, striking out one and walking two.
Southern Fulton tallied 10 hits in the game. Schriever, Mann, and Brooks Norris each drove in two runs for Southern Fulton Indians. Oakman collected two hits for Southern Fulton Indians in three at bats.
SF will now play in the District V Championship Wednesday at TBA location. They will take on the winner of Rockwood at Fannett-Metal (game was ppd today and will be played tomorrow at 2:00pm).
