Glenn With 4 Hits as McConnellsburg Beats Tussey Mountain

Saxton, PA. The Spartans (11-9, 3-5) visited the Tussey Mountain Titans on Friday for a non-conference final season game and Hoyt Glenn collected four hits in four at bats to lead the Spartans to victory over the Titans 8-0. Glenn doubled in the first inning, doubled in the seventh inning, singled in the second inning, and singled in the sixth inning.

McConnellsburg rebounded from their previous two-run loss with a shutout win against Tussey Mountain. This victory marked their ninth consecutive win against the Titans.

The Spartans were the first to get on the board in the first when Reese Alexander singled, scoring one run. In the fifth inning, a Kohen Hall single eventually scored.  In the sixth inning the Spartans added four runs from three singles and a walk.  In the seventh inning, Kade Gress singled and scored two more.

The Spartans accumulated 12 hits in the game. Gress drove the middle of the lineup, leading the team with three runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 3-for-5 on the day. Reese Alexander collected two hits for the team in two at bats. The Spartans had a strong eye at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Alexander and Kayden Marpoe led the team with two walks each. Gress and Glenn each stole multiple bases and the team ran wild on the base paths, amassing six stolen bases for the game.

Kade Gress began the game for the Spartans. The left-handed pitcher gave up four hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out eight and walking three. Hoyt Glenn threw two innings of zero-run ball in relief. He gave up one hit, striking out one and walking none, and retired the side to complete the game.

Camden Chilcote began the game for the Titans. The pitcher allowed three hits and one run over one and one-third innings, striking out three and walking none. O. Miller spent five innings pitched five innings in relief and allowed seven runs and eight hits, striking out and walking five.  J. Garner completed the relief over one inning of no runs, no hits, one strike out and one walk

Gress and Glenn made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Gress didn’t allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. Meanwhile, Glenn tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Gress also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because McConnellsburg is 5-2 when he allows at most two earned runs. At bat, Gress went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Glenn went a perfect 4-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave Glenn a new career high.  The team relied heavily on Reese Alexander, who got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. He has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he’s played.

Next up, McConnellsburg hosts a District 5 Class AA post season play-in game on Monday at 4:30 PM.
