CARLISLE — Chambersburg and Shippensburg combined to bring home 4 track & field gold medals Saturday from the 36th annual Stan Morgan Invitational, held at Carlisle.
For the Trojan boys, Luke Mertz won the pole vault with an effort of 13-0 and Jon Dawe crossed the line first in the 300 hurdles.
Mertz, plus Cumberland Valley’s Noah Shin and Red Land’s Rowan Concannon all reached 13-0, but Mertz won with fewer misses. Dawe produced a time of 40.07 to defeat CV’s Coby Grunden (40.71).
Liam Kirkpatrick took a second in the 1600, as did Cole Lehman in the freshman 1600 race. Chambersburg, which placed third in the team standings behind CV and Carlisle, also was the 4 x 100 runner-up, with the team of Kason Besecker, Imani Watson, Blake Mallast and Antonio Harrison.
The Trojan girls did not have a winner, but placed second, just behind CV in the team standings, with 67.5 points to the Eagles’ 69.
“We had a really nice meet and I’m pleased with the runner-up team finish,” Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said. “The highlight of the meet for us was Alaina Morris tying our school record in the pole vault at 11-6.”
The pole vault winner was Kylie Eisman of Lower Dauphin at 12-6, with Morris in second place.
Also for Chambersburg, Sienna Scott was second in the high jump (5-1) and the 4 x 100 relay team of Jaxin Frazer, Addy Brubaker, Mimi Sistrunk and Addison Zimmerman was second in a time of 50.63.
For the Shippensburg boys, Derek Lynch threw the discus 172-6, which was not only enough to win the meet, but also set a meet record. The Greyhound girls got a first-place effort in the discus from Allessandra Luffy, who won with a throw of 112-5.
