Powerful Pitching Performance From Owen Oakman Spearheads Southern Fulton Past Fannett Metal

JR, Owen Oakman (5-0) struck out 13 batters as the pitcher led the Indians past Fannett Metal 5-0 on Friday in a battle of the top two teams in the ICC South.  Oakman allowed three hits and zero runs over seven innings while walking none.

Southern Fulton (14-0, 5-0) got on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning after threatening in the 3rd and 4th.  Joel Fitz led off the 5th inning with a deep double down the left field line and Paul Hendershot followed him with an RBI single up the middle.  Mark Fitz followed with a RBI single, Kaiden Schriever singled, scoring one run, and Brooks Norris tripled, scoring two runs. The 5 run outburst would be all the Indians needed as Oakman completed the 6th and 7th inning without another threat.

Wade Appleby took the tough loss for Fannett Metal. The starter went five innings, surrendering five runs on nine hits, striking out two and walking two.

Southern Fulton collected 10 hits in the game. Norris led Southern Fulton with two runs batted in from the number eight spot in the lineup. The right-handed hitter went 2-for-3 on the day. Hendershot and Norris each collected two hits for SF.

Adam Hammond went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Fannett Metal in hits.

The two teams square off again quickly as Southern Fulton travels to Willow Hill to take on the Tigers at Fannett Metal on Monday at 4:30pm.
