Fannett-Metal(8-3) gradually pulled away from Forbes Road to defeat the Cardinals 15-5 in six innings.
The Tigers led the Cardinals 6-5 after two innings when the Tigers scored three runs in the third inning to jump ahead for good. In the big inning, both Ayden Ryder and Broc Hostler were hit by pitches. With one out Jake Coffman launched his second triple of the game to the fence to score both runners. Coffman would score on Landon Arnold’s RBI Sacrifice Fly to make it 9-5.
In the bottom of third the Cardinals looked to keep pace when Sawyer Hollibaugh and Drenning led off with back to back hits. But a pair of standout defensive plays ended the threat. Tiger’s Centerfielder Jake Coffman threw out Hollibaugh at third and on the next pitch Landon Arnold flipped a ground ball to second baseman Broc Hostler who threw to first where Adam Hammond scooped up the dirt ball for a nice 6-4-3 double play.
The score would remain 9-5 until the Tigers scored six runs in a big 6th inning. They held the Cardinals in the bottom half of the inning to roll to the 15-5 victory.
The Tigers sent 11 batters to the plate in the big inning. Adam Hammond, Ayden Ryder, Broc Hostler and Wade Appleby all had hits in the inning. The Tigers also drew a couple walks and capitalized on a few Cardinals errors in the big inning.
Fannett-Metal starter Wade Appleby got the win for the Tigers. The Cardinals touched up Appleby for 5 runs, all earned on 8 hits. He had no walks and 5 strikeouts in four innings. Reliever Noah Naugle threw two scoreless innings. He had two hits and recorded five strikeouts.
Mikey Strait pitched 5.1 innings in taking the loss. He gave up 11 runs on 11 hits. He issued 6 walks and had 6 strikeouts. Sawyer Hollibaugh pitched the final 2/3 of inning. The Cardinals committed three errors.
Offensively the Tigers had 13 hits on the day. Landon Arnold had three hits and three RBIs. Jake Coffman hammered a pair of triples and had 3 RBIs. Wade Appleby, Adam Hammond and Broc Hostler had a pair of hits. Tucker Seibert had 2 RBIs. Coffman, Arnold and Appleby scored three runs each.
The Tigers will travel to Everett on Monday evening at 4:30.
