Chambersburg roundup: Boys lacrosse rolls to big win

BOYS LACROSSE
Chambersburg 20, Central Dauphin East 4: The Trojans crossed off some milestones on their way to a Mid Penn Commonwealth rout over the Panthers on the road Tuesday evening.

Matt Tucker

Ryan Cosey scored his 100th career goal (5th player in program history to do so), Matt Tucker scored his 100th career point (14th player) and Quinn Makosy and Tavian Ferguson each passed 100 career groundballs.

Jaxson Thomas had a big day on faceoffs to get the offense started for Chambersburg (5-8, 4-7 MPC).

“The last time we played them, he won only four faceoffs,” Trojan coach Joey Wilmot said. “This time, he won 20 of 27 faceoffs and that made a huge difference as our offense continues to click. I thought Thomas, Ferguson and Blake Hitchens all played their best games of the season so far.”

Cosey ended up with 8 goals and 2 assists, Blake Dupont had 5 goals and 4 assists, Tucker scored 3 times and assisted on 2 others, Ferguson scored twice and added an assist, 6 groundballs and 4 caused turnovers, Makosy had 2 assists and 4 groundballs, Hitchens had a goal, an assist and 9 groundballs, Thomas had an assist and 6 groundballs, Conner Munson contributed an assist and Aydan Younkin scored a goal.

Kellen Sanders made 8 saves in goal.

GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
Chambersburg 102.5, Carlisle 47.5; Chambersburg 132, Harrisburg 18: The Trojans had little trouble handling the Thundering Herd and Cougars in a Mid Penn Commonwealth tri-meet at Trojan Stadium on Tuesday afternoon, ending their dual meet season at 5-3 (5-3 MPC).

Olivia Coy

Chambersburg took first place in all of the field events. The winners included Mikaila Collins in the shot put (28-11), Fi Richards in the discus (98-0), Cami Bender in the javelin (100-4), Jaxin Frazer in the long jump (16-6.25), Mimi Sistrunk in the high jump (4-8), Alaina Morris in the pole vault (10-6) and Olivia Coy in the triple jump (34-4).

Winners on the track were Coy in the 400 (1:04.1), Addy Brubaker in the 200 (26.9) and Marlee Jackson in the 100 hurdles.

The Trojans also picked up wins in all three relays. The 4 x 800 team was Natalie Quinn, Brook Boone, Kaylie Savage and Mady Koons (10:03.2); the 4 x 400 team was Brubaker, Jackson, Sophie Jumper and Coy (4:19.9); and the 4 x 100 team of Frazer, Addy Zimmerman, Sistrunk and Brubaker (50.8).

Chambersburg coach Chris Monheim said, “This was by far our best day of the year. Olivia Coy had a great day, winning two events and ran a gutsy anchor leg in the 4 x 4 to get us a win. Our 4 x 8 team set the tone right from the start. Marlee Jackson had a great leg in the 4 x 4 and picked up points in the hurdles, and Frazer scored 11 points and helped the 4 x 1 relay.

“Also, Collins was the highlight in the field events, with her first-ever event win.”

BOYS TRACK & FIELD
Carlisle 92, Chambersburg 58; Chambersburg 126, Harrisburg 23: The Trojans had an off day Tuesday afternoon at Trojan Stadium and although they swamped the Cougars, it was not enough to compete with Carlisle in a Mid Penn Commonwealth tri-meet.

Julian Clark

The Thundering Herd won all 7 field events to outscore Chambersburg 46-17, while gaining a 5-point margin in points on the track.

“Carlisle beat us in all three relays and it’s hard to win a meet when that happens,” Trojan coach Jim Boyer said. “Things that would have had to go our way just didn’t — both on the track and in the field — and it ended up with a much larger losing margin to Carlisle than predicted.”

Blake Mallast captured two victories for Chambersburg, winning the 100 in 10.6 and the 200 in 21.0. On Saturday at the Jack Roddick Invitational, Mallast’s third-place time in the 200 (21.29) broke his own school record, so he lowered it again Tuesday.

Only two other Chambersburg athletes earned first places — Julian Clark in the 3200 (9:59.5) and Jon Dawe in the 300 hurdles (40.5).

Boyer said, “Julian had a nicely-paced 3200 win. Our boys 4 x 8 relay, even though they didn’t win, ran a nice time of 8:06.3.”
