WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Cumberland Valley Christian Blazers registered non-league victories over Carroll Christian in baseball and girls soccer Friday.
BASEBALL: CVCS 6, Carroll 5. The Blazers (2-3) rallied in the fifth inning to erase a deficit and went on to defeat Carroll Christian 6-5.
The Blazers trailed 4-2 after four innings but scored four runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-4 lead. After Carroll reduced the margin to 6-5 in the sixth, Gage Brookens came in to relieve and closed the door by getting the last six outs, including five by strikeout.
“I was very worried with the all the rain we got, and assuming we would have to reschedule, I thought the kids really came out ready,” Blazers coach Ed McBeth said.
Offensively, Jensen Henninger was 3-for-3 with a double, Brookens and Nathan Minnier contributed doubles, and Garrett Scheeler smacked a two-run triple. Micah Ramsey pitched two innings of one-run ball to earn the win.
GIRLS SOCCER: CVCS 5, Carroll 1. The Blazers (3-1) turned in a dominating performance in a 5-1 victory over Carroll.
“The girls did not let the mud slow them down as they were fighting for every ball,” Blazers coach Tim Hott said. “The team worked very hard and put in their best performance of the season.”
Addison Teal scored three goals to lead the Blazers. Reagan Witmer and Kaitlyn Garvin added a goal apiece.
Goalkeeper Kylaya Martin made four saves.
