Shalom Lady Flames advance to 2A District Championship game, boys advance to semifinals

Congratulations to the Shalom Lady Flames on their decisive 65-24 victory over the Lancaster Country Day Lady Cougars, marking their first-ever District 3 playoff win! Next up, they’re heading to Hershey, PA, known as the sweetest place on earth, to face off against the York Catholic Lady Irish (21-2) in the District 3 AA Championship Game. The game is set for Wednesday, February 26th, at 4:30 PM at the Giant Center.

With the win, the Lady Flames clinched a berth in the PIAA State Championships, which begin on Saturday, March 8.

The Flames set the tone early in the game defensively, with Maya Lehman and Emily Rebok locking down the Cougars’ sharpshooter, Sophia Sanchez. They held the Cougars to just 5 points in the first quarter. Offensively, the Flames were on fire, hitting 4 three-pointers and scoring 21 points in the first quarter alone. They continued to dominate in the second quarter, extending their lead to 30 points by halftime.

Throughout the game, the Flames’ team defense was outstanding, with Kaitlyn Thomas making significant contributions inside as she continues recovering from an ankle injury. Julianna Myers overcame early foul trouble to play stellar defense and grab crucial rebounds. Emily Rebok led the scoring with 23 points, capitalizing on assists from Addison Adams and Maya Lehman, while also hitting 2 three-pointers early. Lehman contributed 16 points, and Adams added 15 points and pulled down numerous rebounds. Freshman Sydney Moore showcased her potential with 5 points, hinting at a bright future ahead.

This victory was truly a team effort, with the bench players providing extra energy throughout the game. The focus now shifts to the Championship Game against York Catholic, where the Lady Flames aim to capture the District title. Fans are encouraged to take off work and come out and support these talented athletes as they pursue a championship on Wednesday at 4:30 at the Giant Center.

The Shalom Boys defeated Ephrata Mennonite 58-48 to advance to the 1A Boys district semifinal at York Tech on Tuesday night in York and will play York Country Day (20-0).The Flames clinched a berth in the PIAA 1A Boys Championships which begin Saturday, March 8. Game details were not available,
