Only 3 teams from Franklin County were able to qualify for the District 3 basketball playoffs, including two getting their first taste of PIAA tournament play.

The Chambersburg boys rolled to a 17-4 record in the regular season, good enough to earn the No. 4 seed in the District 3 Class 6A playoffs.

The Trojans will take on a familiar foe in the first round when they host No. 13 seed Carlisle (13-8) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. Chambersburg has defeated the Thundering Herd twice this season.

The winner of that game will play the winner of a first-round matchup between No. 12 Cedar Crest (14-7) at No. 5 Wilson (16-5). Should the Trojans beat Carlisle, they would host that quarterfinal game on Friday, Feb. 21 at 7 p.m.

All first-round winners will qualify for the PIAA State Tournament, since the top 8 teams from the district qualify.

Shalom Christian Academy became a PIAA member starting this school season, and both boys and girls were able to qualify for the District 3 playoffs.

The Flames are the No. 2 seed in Class 2A with their 15-3 record. Only 4 teams are in the 2A bracket, so Shalom will host a semifinal game against No. 3 seed Lancaster Country Day (8-12) on Friday, Feb. 21. The other semifinal is No. 4 Halifax (10-12) at No. 1 York Catholic (20-2). Both finalists qualify for the PIAA tournament.

Shalom Christian’s boys team is 11-5 and received the No. 5 seed in Class 1A. On Friday, Feb. 21, the Flames will play at No. 4 seed Ephrata Mennonite (10-4) at 7 p.m. in a quarterfinal game. The winner will likely play No. 1 seed York Country Day (20-0) in the semifinals on Feb. 25.

The Waynesboro boys and Greencastle-Antrim, Shippensburg and Waynesboro girls all came close to qualifying for districts, but fell just short.
