G-A roundup: Blue Devil basketball teams fall short of playoffs

GIRLS BASKETBALL
Greencastle-Antrim 47, Gettysburg 30: The Blue Devils did what they had to do Monday to have a chance at making the District 3 playoffs by beating the Warriors in a Mid Penn Colonial game at Gettysburg.

However, Milton Hershey defeated Shippensburg and currently holds the No. 14 ranking in Class 5A. That would give the Spartans the final spot in the bracket and leave G-A at No. 15.

The Blue Devils, who finished 11-11 (8-6 MPC), burst out of the gate, taking a 13-2 lead after one period. Gettysburg (6-16, 2-12 MPC) tried to keep up from long range — 24 of its 30 points came on 3-pointers — but G-A did not let them catch up.

Greencastle spread the wealth, with 8 of its 9 players scoring and getting 24 points off the bench.

Ellie Bigler yanked down 17 rebounds and had 9 points and a trio of assists for the Blue Devils. Lexi Nelson scored a career-high 10 points. Callie Izer had 8 points, Sophie Fries and Meadow Gambacurta each had 6 points (3 assists) and Brooke Guthrie had 8 rebounds.
