NEW KINGSTOWN — Chambersburg’s boys swim team won two individual events Saturday and ended up in second place in the team standings on the final day of the Mid Penn Conference championships at Cumberland Valley.
Amir Tasker raced to a time of 46.28 to hit the wall first in the boys 100 freestyle event and win a gold medal.
Cristian Pong came through with another victory in the 100 backstroke, in a winning time of 52.30. Teammates Xavier Covington was 8th (56.66) and Griffin Adamek was 11th (57.71).
“We had a wonderful day today,” Chambersburg coach Chad White said. “Lots of super-fast swimming that will set us up nicely for our postseason run (District 3 and PIAA meets). Amir and Thomas (McCullough, 52.49) set the tone in the 100 free and then it seemed like everyone was going off left and right.”
The Trojan 400 free relay team was second behind State College (3:09.80). Chambersburg’s team of Tasker, Alex Kazcmark, Ethan White and Cullen McGraw hit a time of 3:10.72.
Kaczmark posted a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:41.32, tailed closely in 3rd by McGraw with a 4:41.53.
In the team chase, CV ended up with 366 points and Chambersburg scored 296.
White said, “Colby (Evans), Thomas, Cullen and Griffin all set personal best times today. We qualified a lot of times for districts, so we should have a bunch of races to get excited for.”
The District 3 championships are Feb. 28-March 1 at Cumberland Valley.
In the girls meet, Margot Ritchie was the frontrunner for the Trojans, taking a second in the 100 backstroke, finishing with a time of 57.99. That time was good for a school record.
Calla Hoffman placed 6th in that event (1:00.10) and Audrey Keller (1:02.22) was 11th. Hoffman also earned a fifth-place finish in the 500 freesttyle in 5:25.37.
Chambersburg coach Hali Cormany said, “Many girls posted season and personal bests at this meet. Brooke Reichelderfer dropped 2 seconds in her 100 fly. Lauren Markle had a best in the 100 breaststroke in over 3 seconds. Calla had personal bests in her back-to-events (back and 500 free).
“Our confidence is high and looking to carry it into the postseason.”
